Looking for opportunities for employee development, in 2013 Cēsu alus got involved in the lifelong learning program “Leonardo da Vinci” mobility project “People in the labor market” offered by the State Education Development Agency (VIAA).

It is a profitable project for the company, as all costs are covered, no co-financing is required. When the participation in the project is approved, 80 percent of the funding is allocated, and the rest of the funding can be received when the project reports are submitted.

In 2013, employees of the production and technical department – heads of the laboratory, technical department, fermenter, bottling department, technologist, and the chief alderman – went to Finland, to Cēsu alus’s parent company Olvi, as part of an experience exchange practice, because it is the most difficult to gain experience in production in a similar company in Latvia. They met with their direct colleagues and worked and completed practice tasks together for two weeks.

Three months before going to Finland for training, Cēsu alus employees learned English in order to feel more at ease so that there would be no misunderstandings in communication with colleagues. Language training is also provided for in the project.

We are happy to share our experience so that other entrepreneurs also dare to use Leonardo da Vinci and other projects offered by the EU. This is an example that acquiring new knowledge can be very successful, not always everything has to be financed by the company.
