The employees of the “Cēsu alus” brewery have planted 2,000 spruce saplings in order to compensate for the amount of paper used during the year for the labels of the “Cēsu Premium” beer glass bottles. The project was implemented in cooperation with the largest full-cycle forest management and wood industry company in Latvia “PATA”, by planting fir trees in the company’s forests in the vicinity of Drusti.
Spruce saplings will offset the amount of paper used for glass bottle labels of the beer brand “Cēsu Premium” produced in one year. This has already become an annual tradition that the company implements every spring. Last year, employees of “Cēsu alus” planted 2,000 spruce saplings in the vicinity of Inchukalna.
Eva Sietiņsone, chairman of the Cēsu alus board: “We have evaluated the life cycle of Cēsu Premium beer and the environmental impact of product production. The deposit system has made a big contribution, allowing us to recover about 70% of glass bottles from the market and use them multiple times, which means that resources are not consumed for the production of new bottles and the amount of waste is reduced. On the other hand, the planted trees allow us to compensate for the paper used for the production of labels. We are pleased with our employees response by participating in tree planting. Our cooperation partner – the company PATA – will make sure that the planted trees grow into a beautiful forest.”
