On July 16, as part of the Cēsu city festival, AS “Cēsu alus” and “Cēsu novadas municipality” presented the annual award “Cēsnieks”. This year, the winner of the title “Cēsnieks 2022” is Gunta Bērziņa, director of Cēsu State Gymnasium (CVĘ).

The long-time director of CVG, Gunta Bērziņa, will take a well-deserved rest this year. School students achieve excellent success in regional, national and world Olympiads and scientific research works.

Dita Sloka, Head of the Finance, IT and Procurement Department of JSC “Cēsu alus”: “The candidates for the “Cēsnieks” award were also strong this year, each contributing in an important field. According to the citizens’ assessment, this year the honorary title of “Cēsnieks” goes to CVG director Gunta Bērziņa – it is gratitude for her contribution to raising the bar for the quality of education and the best memories of her school days shared by Gunta’s former students.”

“The name of Guntas Bērzina and CVĘ does not require any comments from any Cēsis resident. She is a person who was able to gather and inspire capable pedagogues and students, leading the school to excellence, becoming one of the best educational institutions in the country and representing both Cēsis and Latvia in the arenas of the international Olympics,” emphasizes Jānis Rozenbergs, chairman of the Cēsu county council, adding that “the result of the vote is natural and reflects it the great work that Gunta Bērziņa has invested in CVG, its students and teaching staff over the years and which will always be remembered by everyone who came across her work abilities and energy.”

The candidates nominated for the “Cēsnieks 2022” award were determined by the jury committee, evaluating the most significant events and activities in the life of the city of Cēsu.
